Coldplay Sustainability Report: What does it hold for us? Find Out

Here are a few major takeaways, that I would suggest from the sustainability report with some cost-effective measures on how this large cost-incurring activity can be done involving very minimal cost:

 

CO2 Emissions: The team has taken the initiative by getting DHlL on board for freight and transportation services to ensure minimal carbon emissions. Thus, a few measures that can be incorporated to ensure a sustainable lifestyle with minimal cost include:

• Carpool – The most effective, with the minimal cost required
• Use metro/public transportation services – The cost incurred in it is minimal with the provision of ACs. Cool, isn’t it

Water: The team worked towards installing water provision services while also ensuring that people use refillable water bottles during concerts.

However, we can ensure minimal wastage in water use through the following simple ways:

• Try using earthen pots during summers to ensure that cool, filtered water is available at a minimal cost. Furthermore, this use saves us from the large amount of wastewater produced during water filtration in RO water treatment systems.
• While using RO water treatment systems, ensure that a pipe connects the wastewater disposer to the water treatment plant or into the garden with plants grown that ultimately reduces harmful chemicals from water while ensuring plant growth. Plants like Tulsi, Ashwagandha, and Hibiscus absorb high levels of phosphorus and nitrogen.

Waste: The band has focused on the reduction of using single-use plastic, establishing recycling programs, and supporting ocean cleanup programs. However, on a personal level, some of the following measures can be incorporated for a sustainable lifestyle.

• In the case of single-use plastic water bottles, the water bottles once empty can be cut and a series of bottles can be made into beautiful hangings supporting plant growth adding an essential element for home decor.
• Alternatively, the bottles can be stuffed well with other plastic waste in the house and created into eco-bricks which can then be made into pressure-absorbing DIY articles like stools, sofas, etc.
• Finally, your collected assortment of single-use plastic can be sent to recycling centers in return for money (Sounds Nice!!)

Nature: The team has taken initiatives to support the afforestation and reforestation measures across the globe. Our tiny steps in this direction could be the following:

• A cost-effective measure for plant growth can be the use of seeb balls, balls essentially made of nutrient-rich manure to support the nutrient requirement till the roots and shoots develop.
• Moreover, used fruit seeds can be dried, properly washed, and grown in kitchen gardens.
• Installation of air quality improving plants like snake plants into the house for purifying the air that enters the house.

Food: The band initiated the use of local food with the installation of food banks and converting organic waste into compost. We can initiate some of it in our own lives to ensure sustainability:

• Organic waste like fruit and vegetable peels and rotten fruits can be used to create compost. Here is something, that I used for compost production: Use an old water bucket, get some holes drilled which are equally distant, and install a tap at the bottom which is just 50-60 centimeters above the ground. The bucket is now ready to be your compost bin. Just keep it covered with cardboard to ensure that no unnecessary elements destroy it. Start composting with a base soil layer or a layer of sawdust (cheapest browns available) and then put your wet waste in it followed by another layer of sawdust. This will ensure that the composting remains odorless. Once the bucket is filled, periodically rotate the contents of the bucket to ensure aeration.
• Those of us who own restaurants can connect with food collection centers for leftover food produced by the restaurants so that excess food does not end up in landfills and is used properly.

 

These are some of the measures that according to me can prove to be helpful enough for ensuring that we also contribute positively to the environment by living a sustainable life. (A proud feeling, isn’t it?)
